Behind the Scenes: Rainroom
The Rain Room is an incredible place to create. It’s honestly just a lot of fun with lots of possibilities. Today, I’m excited to share some of my work captured in the Rain Room and provide a few tips and tricks for those who want to make the most out of their time in this space.
I wanted to share some of my shots here because, unfortunately, many social platforms deem them too "spicy" or inappropriate, despite their artistic intent. The Rain Room inspires boldness, and I’ve embraced that in my work, capturing moments that celebrate the human form, movement, and emotion.
Tips and Tricks for Photographing in the Rain Room
Here are some key takeaways from my Rain Room experience:
1. Keep the Poses Simple
Safety first! The floor can be slippery, and the last thing you want is someone getting injured during a photoshoot. Simple, elegant poses work best in this setting. Think long lines, graceful movements, and subtle gestures that complement the flowing rain.
2. Bring a Towel (or Two)
The rainroom in NYC is designed to allow you to take photos without necessarily getting drenched, but it costs extra to get a a towel and you’re bound to get a little wet.
3. Point the Toes
This tip applies to most photoshoots, but it’s especially important here. Pointed toes and extended legs create beautiful, elongated lines that enhance the overall aesthetic. In the Rain Room, where every detail matters, this small adjustment can make a big difference.
4. Avoid Dark Clothes
The Rain Room is already quite dimly lit, so wearing dark clothing can make you blend into the background. Opt for lighter, brighter outfits that stand out against the rain. Flowy fabrics and reflective materials can add a touch of drama and help your subject pop in the frame.
